October is National Bullying Prevention Month!

Becoming an official chapter of 826 National impacts and amplifies our work in big ways. One such way is enhanced opportunities for partnership and collaboration both within and outside of the 826 Network. Throughout October, for example, we’re out to help students stop bullying before it starts through “Include Someone, Make a Difference,” our latest collaboration with Cartoon Network’s Stop Bullying: Speak Up initiative and PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center.

826 National is inviting students to share how they “Include Someone,” along with the state they live in. As you can see, 826 National has had a great start collecting inclusion-focused student stories and suggestions from across the nation. Hopefully by the end of October the entire map of the United States will be orange!

Meanwhile, we’ve been busy incorporating inclusion-themed writing in our After-School Writing Lab. In the example below, our young authors created an ending to the Teen Titans' story where everyone feels included. You can facilitate similar writing activities in classrooms or at home by accessing a free resource from 826 Digital. Check out this free original lesson “Include Someone, Make a Difference,” created in partnership with our friends at Cartoon Network’s Stop Bullying: Speak Up campaign and PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. The lesson, for grades 3-5, inspires students to write an inclusive resolution to a shared story, stop bullying before it starts, and make a difference through writing.
