FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Local Brewer and Publisher Team Up to Support Youth Literacy Organization 826 MSP

Dual Beer and Book Release Event to Benefit Non-profit on Give to the Max Day

Contact: T. Martin Crouse, t.martin@sicsemperserpent.com

The unique, for-benefit brewery La Doña Cervecería and indie publisher Sic Semper Serpent Books have joined forces to bring you a two-in-one beer & book release event to benefit the local youth education non-profit 826 MSP.

The event will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14th, or “Give To the Max Day”—a popular fundraising day for Minnesota non-profits—to benefit the Minneapolis chapter of 826, a national organization whose mission is to empower underserved K-12 students to think creatively, write effectively, and succeed academically alongside a community of caring volunteers.

Beginning at 6 pm and running until 10 pm at La Doña's brewery and taphouse on Fremont Ave. in Minneapolis, the fundraiser will include a celebration of local literature featuring fresh beer, live story performances, a book signing, great food, and more.

The benefit will include food by Flagsmash and the launch of a new beer created by La Doña, the Pensar Porter. This dark, toasty beer with hints of cocoa and malt is perfect for long, cold nights curled up with a great book. A dollar from every Pensar Porter sold during the event will be donated to 826 MSP.

Sic Semper Serpent will launch their new book, The Adventures of Israel St. James, at the event, as well. The book will be available everywhere November 19th, but advance copies will be sold to fundraiser attendees at a special price. The author, Nathaniel Hicklin, and Illustrator, Jason Belden, will be on hand for story readings and book signings. A limited-edition poster featuring characters from the book will also generate a dollar donation for every sale.

The Adventures of Israel St. James is progressive, pulp-style fiction at its finest, complete with historical action for readers of all ages. This epic, fully-illustrated collection of globetrotting short fiction depicts a centuries-long quest to collect and keep safe history's most powerful magical artifacts and was written and illustrated by local Twin Cities talent.

Some volunteers from 826 MSP will also have merchandise and books written by their young students for sale. They'll have more information about the important work they do as education advocates in Minneapolis, especially their literacy engagement with our underserved communities.

Make the most of Give to the Max Day and join La Doña, Sic Semper Serpent, and 826 MSP for a charitable literary event featuring local artists, food, and craft beer in support of literacy education for local youth.
