December Newsletter

Dear Friends and Supporters of 826 MSP,

As we wrap up a remarkable year, it's time to reflect on the milestones we've achieved together. One such highlight was our annual Books for Breakfast event, held on November 9, 2023, at the American Swedish Institute. This year, we not only celebrated literature and learning but also marked a fundraising triumph, raising over $30,000 to support our mission.

Keynote Inspiration: Bobby Rogers
The event was graced by the presence of Bobby Rogers, a beacon of creativity and resilience. As a young Black man who has navigated his path to become one of the most influential visual artists in the Midwest, Bobby's journey resonates deeply with our ethos at 826 MSP. With a career spanning nearly a decade, his collaborations with giants like Apple, the New York Times, and David Zwirner, and his impactful role at Target, Bobby embodies the spirit of breaking barriers and pursuing excellence.
His keynote address was not just inspiring; it was a call to action for young minds to dream big and work tirelessly towards their goals. His experiences, particularly with Juxtaposition Arts and the Walker, illustrated the power of art in shaping lives and communities.

Engaging with the Future: Our Students and Bobby Rogers
A heartwarming aspect of the event was the interactive panel where 826 MSP students conversed with Bobby. This exchange was more than a discussion; it was a living example of how young minds can be stimulated and encouraged through direct engagement with successful role models.

The students also had a platform to showcase their creative writing, turning the event into a true celebration of community and talent. Watching our young writers share their work was a testament to the importance of providing spaces for creative expression.

Culminating Success: The Chapbook Release
We concluded our semester with the release of a chapbook crafted by students from our Afterschool Writing Lab (ASWL). This collection is not just a set of writings; it's a mosaic of dreams, thoughts, and voices of our young writers. It stands as a tangible reminder of what we strive for at 826 MSP: nurturing the creative potential in every child.

Looking Ahead
As we move forward, let's carry the inspiration from Books for Breakfast and Bobby Rogers into the new year. Let's continue to build platforms where creativity, diversity, and education intersect to empower the next generation of writers, thinkers, and leaders.
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Your support makes these moments of celebration, learning, and growth possible. Here's to many more!

In Gratitude,
826 MSP Crew
